We All Want More Traffic!

It doesn’t really matter what industry, niche or business you are in – we all want the same thing – more traffic to our online presence in order to generate more leads and sales for our business.

social web

That’s it – simple!

Of course if only it were so simple! There is a long hard road before we get there.

But where do you start?

The foundations of your online presence are important, with your website (preferably a WordPress blog) at the centre of that presence.
Gone are the days when you simply put up a website, advertised your products and services, and people would come and find you.
Now you need your website, a Blog, Facebook Page, a Twitter Account, an Email Service, LinkedIn, YouTube, Pinterest, Google Plus ….. and on and on….

So yes, your website, which most of us now have, is the very centre of your online presence.

This is a really great article about why a blog is essential for most small businesses

Most of us also have at the very least a Facebook page, and a Twitter account.

BUT are you using these accounts as part of a whole system or are you simply posting the occasional tweet, updating Facebook when you remember and not linking the whole thing together, into any sort of structured or organised process.

If not then you are losing out big time – on traffic that could lead to sales.

When you Google a person, product or service it is very often Social Sites that are returned on the first page of search, so it makes sense to get your brand name out there on as many of these Social platforms as possible.

Yes, it is easy to create your profile, but not quite so easy to optimise it.

By optimise I mean to make the most of that profile – to put links to all your other sites on there, plus relevant keywords and images.

Once optimised how on earth can you then find time to update to all these sites – well, there are ways to automate. You need to be very careful about automation and scheduling but it is possible to save a ton of time by creating your own schedule which works and makes sense for your business.

So I mentioned the centre of this presence as your website, preferably a blog.

If you feel you spend a lot of time on social media with very little results then you need to ask yourself what exactly are you trying to achieve and where are you trying to drive traffic to?

It doesn’t matter what your business is, you have information which needs to be shared so if you have a blog it is the very best way to share that information, and drive traffic from your social media sites to your home base, your website.

When people arrive at your website you need to give them something interesting to look at, and you also need to capture their email information so that you can continue to educate them about what you have to offer.

So make sure you have a website which you can update yourself regularly, where you can make your offers and drive traffic from social sites to those offers.

  2. Hey Sue,

This sounds great. You can certainly add me to the list.

I’d like to bet that the linking together of all social media sites to your business is something that most people don’t know how to do properly.

I have a project this year that I’d like to do just that with but wouldn’t know where to start. I was preparing to commit to a boat load of research to learn how to do it, so this will be very handy.

    Regards,
    Dean.

Automation is where it’s at. I never had time to sit down and get everything working together.

I spend to much time manually added my blog posts to Twitter and Google Plus. And don’t even get me started on LinkedIN! :)

I need to learn how to remove all the manual submissions so I post a blog post and everything else is updated.

I am hoping this is what you’re going to teach – I signed up!

  11. Hi Sue,

Yes you are so right, linking all these social media locations, blogs etc are so important. Especially as Google likes to see all these social signals.

But of course it needs to be done the right way.

I look forward to your spiders web.
